Hotel Melia Cohiba Havana Review

Hotel Melia Cohiba Havana

Address: Av. Paseo E – 1a Y 3a, Vedado, Ciudad De La Habana, Cuba

Havana Reviews True 5 star standards, Restaurants, Business Center, Pool area & gym

The HavanaReviews.com team stayed at the Melia Cohiba Havana this fall. The Melia Cohiba, along with its parent chain hotel, the Melia Habana, offer international standards of accommodation in Cuba but make no pretences concerning their hotels which are devoid of Cuban character in just about all respects besides the staff. In fact, we were told that the Melia Cohiba was actually a hotel designed to be built in Spain which never went ahead and the architectural drawings were simply sent to Cuba in the early 90´s. The Melia Cohiba rooms are large and comfortable, and most have excellent views over the Havana Malecon and down the coastline, particularly those on the higher floors however the westward view is blocked on most floors by the Habana Riviera Hotel just out front. The executive floors and services here make this by far the best choice for business travelers visiting Havana, and it’s got a brilliant outdoor pool and the best equipped health club we’ve found at any hotel in Havana. In fact the The HavanaReviews.com team spent some time in the Sauna and Jacuzzi area which was utterly delightful and just 10 CUC per person. The Melia Cohiba Havana has a wide range of restaurants and lobby & mezzanine level shops, and even its buffet restaurant is excellent, with live cook stations and enough space and flow so as not to feel like a stampede at breakfast.

Melia Cohiba Habana Cafe

One night we were offered free entry into the Habana Café which is one of the better club/restaurants in Havana, with a nightly entertainment, show and live music. Particularly amusing is the old Cubana Mail delivery plane hanging from the ceiling.

The Melia Cohiba Havana offers executive floors and Servicio Real upgrade, which includes Internet and business-center privileges, as well as a constantly refreshed and extensive buffet in the executive lounge; make this by far the best choice for business travelers. We took one day of the upgrade and it was well worth the extra if you intend to take a day off from visiting Havana and simply stay at the hotel. Otherwise it makes no sense to pay the extra.

Melia Cohiba Pool

What we found was that overall there’s great service, especially the concierge. Pool and surrounding area (including gym) are huge and meticulously cleaned and maintained.

We found room service to be prompt and reasonably priced for a 5 star hotel of the Melia Cohibas calibre. Hotel is very well-located for restaurants, jazz clubs and the boardwalk or ‘Malecon’. There is both a supermarket and an excellent jazz club called the ‘Jazz Café’ directly across the street from the Melia Cohiba in which we had a few Mojito´s for just 3 CUC each.

Old Havana is about 10 minutes away and we made good use of the free, timely & reliable hotel shuttle service almost every day during our 3 night stay.

We highly recommended the Melia Cohiba if you are simply looking for word class accommodations in Havana and don’t need/want the old colonial and sometimes quirky accommodations in Old Havana.

Hotel MELIA COHIBA Havana is one of the few hotels that do not require prepayment or deposit to Book.
